I like to make a large batch of this and enjoy it for a few days. This is a great lunch or light weeknight meal.
This salad is delicious! This dressing is amazing. It’s a combination of sesame oil, soy sauce, and a little bit of ginger and garlic. The shredded cabbage adds a nice crunch.
This Chinese language rooster dish is a great example of a recipe that can be made in advance. When I know I’ll have a busy work week, I prepare a large batch on Sunday. I then have meals ready for several days.
Elements
Here’s a list of the ingredients you’ll need to make this delicious salad. You can find the exact measurements in the recipe below.
Salad:
Shredded cooked chicken: When I cook rooster, I tend to use pre-cooked breasts. You can also use rotisserie chicken. Just be sure to remove the skin.
Shredded green cabbage: Adds a delicious crunch to salad. I use a coleslaw mix that also contains purple cabbage and shredded carrots to make my life easier.
Inexperienced onions sliced: Only use inexperienced components. They are a great addition to the salad. They can be sprinkled on top or mixed into the salad for a nice presentation.

Soy Sauce : In most of my recipes, I use reduced-sodium sauce. You can also use a gluten free alternative.
Sesame Oil I use toasted sesame oils. It’s delicious!
Rice Vinegar: If you do not have any rice vinegar on hand, white wine vinegar can be used as a replacement. However, I do not recommend using plain distilled vinegar. It’s way too acidic.
Honey One tablespoon is enough to balance out other flavors. This ingredient can be omitted if desired.
Minced Ginger and Garlic You can either mince the ingredients yourself or buy them in a jar. Although, freshly minced garlic and ginger will taste better. Although I wouldn’t recommend substituting powders – they aren’t as tasty.
Flakes of purple pepper do not make the salad spicy, but they add a new layer of flavor.
Skilled tip
This salad can be made in advance and then refrigerated. It tastes better because it has been allowed to blend flavors, so make it several hours before you plan to serve it.
This is a fusion dish of Chinese and American cuisine. This salad was not served to me when I visited China in the Nineties. It’s a salad that’s influenced by Chinese flavors and ingredients, and it is delicious!
How do I make my salad crunchy?
Many recipes call for crunchy noodles. I find that they are useless. You can also add some slivered almonds to the recipe if you like.
Can you skip the honey?
You’ll have no problem. It’s a good idea, but I only use a teaspoon. I like how it balances the flavors.
Here are some methods to alter this recipe.
You can add mandarin oranges to some recipes in Chinese. Because I don’t like fruit in salads, I prefer not to add it. I also don’t include grapes in my rooster-salad. You can add up to 1/4 cup if you like.
You can skip the crunchy noodles that are usually added to these salads. The crunchy cabbage adds a lot of flavor. If you like, you can also add 1/4 cup of slivered almonds.
You can use broccoli slaw as a substitute for shredded cabbage, or a coleslaw mix. It’s excellent!
You can increase the amount of red pepper flakes when you enjoy spicy food. Try 1/2 teaspoon, then taste. You can always add more.
Serving solutions
It is similar to Thai rooster-salad and is served as a main course. This salad is very filling and substantial. It contains rooster, greens and a lot of rooster. After all, it’s a great lunch. It’s also a great dinner option, especially in the summer when I don’t feel like cooking.
This salad does not require any side dishes. Serve it in a bowl for a delicious and satisfying meal.
